Cuban musician José Manuel Carvajal, El Taiger, has passed away.

Cuban musician José Manuel Carvajal Zaldívar, known artistically as El Taiger, died today at the age of 37 in Miami, USA.

This is confirmed in a note from the Cuban Institute of Music, which highlights: «With the death of El Taiger, we bid farewell to one of the most recognised figures of the urban genre, who did not renounce his Cuban condition and always expressed love for his country».

The cultural institution also sent heartfelt condolences to the artist’s family, friends and admirers.

Last Thursday, October 3, El Taiger was seriously wounded by a gunshot to the head, which caused serious brain injuries and led to several days of hospitalisation.

According to the text, Cuban institutions followed up on his state of health and supported his next of kin in the consular process for the application for a humanitarian visa at the US embassy in Havana.

José Manuel Carvajal began his professional career at the age of 17 in the Cuban urban music group Los 4, where he was nicknamed El Príncipe, and became known nationally and internationally.

He later founded the project Los Desiguales and recorded collaborations with artists such as Bryant Myers and J. Balvin.

During his solo career he released several hits that increased his popularity in Cuba and the United States, particularly among young people.

By family decision, the body of José Manuel Carvajal Zaldívar will be cremated.
