The delegation of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) visiting Chile today thanked the solidarity movement for its support to the Revolution and the struggle against the blockade imposed by the United States.
In a meeting with a broad representation of organizations, committees and collectives that are part of the movement, ICAP first vice-president Noemi Rabaza commended the support here for the athletes who participated in the recent Pan American and Parapan American Games.
«We are happy for everything they are doing and for what they will continue to do for Cuba,» said Rabaza, heading the delegation that also visited Uruguay and Argentina.
She explained that her country is going through difficult times, and the government of U.S. President Joe Biden maintains a policy of maximum pressure by continuing with the 243 measures imposed by Donald Trump that affect all sectors.
He denounced that the application of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, which reinforces the extraterritoriality of the blockade, and the inclusion of Cuba in the spurious list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism, hinder banking transactions and attempt to strangle the economy.
Lilia Zamora, director for Latin America and the Caribbean at ICAP and member of the delegation, referred to the international campaign Cuba Lives and Resists, which seeks to reach one million signatures to demand the United States to exclude the Caribbean nation from that unilateral list.
Zamora highlighted the work of the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Network of Solidarity with Cuba, which will hold its first meeting in Mexico in 2025.
He also discussed the work with young people and the creation of the Youth Brigade of Solidarity with Cuba, which is now being organized for the second time and in which members from several countries of the region participate.
The meeting, held at the Instituto de Ciencias Alejandro Lipschutz, in this capital city, was entertained by musicians Sergio Gutiérrez and Leo Candia.
It was also attended by Rosario Rodríguez, first secretary of the Cuban embassy in Chile, other members of the diplomatic legation, and representatives of the Raíces Cubanas organization of residents here.
The ICAP delegation began its visit on Monday with a tribute to the late President Salvador Allende and fulfills a broad work agenda that included meetings with the Popular Propaganda Brigade and the Construction Union.
It was also received by the president of the Communist Party of Chile, Lautaro Carmona, members of the political and international relations commission of that organization.
