Cuba rejects statements by the US Secretary of State

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today rejected statements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who branded Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela as enemies of humanity and the cause of the current migration crisis in the hemisphere.

The shamelessness once again taking hold of cynical US politicians, declared Díaz-Canel from his X account, in response to a post by the Spanish news agency EFE with the comments made by Rubio on Tuesday at a press conference in San José, Costa Rica.

The head of state clarified that the migratory exodus in Cuba responds to the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the Caribbean country by the US more than 60 years ago, which deprives the Cuban people of essential goods.

Humanity is endangered by your neo-fascism, said the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic.

«It has been proven that the migration exodus in Cuba is proportional to the tightening of the blockade, which deprives our people of essential goods. Humanity is endangered by your neo-fascism».

Enemies of humanity are those of us who resist blockades without abandoning solidarity with other peoples or those who apply the blockade by trampling on international laws,» the president asked.

The enemy of humanity is the empire with its expansionist appetite and its useless claim to rule the world, he replied.

«Enemies of humanity are those of us who resist blockades without abandoning solidarity with other peoples or those who apply the blockade by trampling on international laws? The enemy of humanity is the empire with its expansionist appetite and its futile claim to rule the world».

Through the same social network, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba’s foreign minister, described the projection of the US government promoted by Rubio as a threat to Latin America and the Caribbean.

He stressed that these procedures are based on the corrupt and dishonest methods that he, former senator Bob Menéndez and other anti-Cubans have made habitual practice.

«The US projection towards Latin America and the Caribbean promoted by the Secretary of State is a threat to the region and logically rests on the corrupt and dishonest methods that he, his companion Bob Menendez and other anti-Cubans have made habitual practice».

In addition to Tuesday’s statements, Rubio reinstated, last Friday 1 February, Cuba’s restricted list of Cuban companies that are banned from certain financial transactions, and expanded it by adding the main channel for sending remittances to the island.

This list prohibits direct financial transactions with some entities because it is considered that they would benefit the Cuban security or intelligence services, at the expense of the Cuban population or private Cuban companies.
