Cuba reaffirms commitment to children’s full development

The Cuban authorities confirmed their commitment to ensure the well-being and full and comprehensive development of children, on the occasion of today’s celebration of the World Day for Children.

On World Children’s Day, Cuba celebrates achievements in the area of children’s rights and well-being, according to a message from the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs published on X.

«We reiterate our commitment to their protection and integral development and we recognise the work of all those who every day work for a better future for our children,» the text adds.

Since 1990, Cuba has been a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, an international treaty of the United Nations, which stipulates that because of their condition as human beings in physical and mental growth, infants require special guarantees and attention.

In 1991, the Cuban government ratified it, an act that includes a commitment to comply with it.

From birth, a child in Cuba is guaranteed the rights to health and education free of charge, supported by the Constitution of the Republic and legal norms such as the Family Code.
