Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, stressed today at the Brics Ministerial Council meeting in Russia, the importance and necessity of continuing to strengthen integration and cooperation in pursuit of a fair, democratic and equitable international order.
The Cuban Foreign Minister informed X that in his speech at the extended session of the Council he expressed his country’s agreement with the member countries of the group (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran), on the basis of multilateralism and respect for diversity.
According to the Prensa Latina news agency, Rodríguez Parrilla also reiterated the Caribbean nation’s willingness to share with the Brics its modest experience and results in areas such as the medical, pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries, for the benefit of all the countries of the South.
He acknowledged Cuba’s excellent relations with the 10 states that make up the group, and stressed that the island is part of far-reaching initiatives promoted by Brics members, such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union, as an Observer.
«We have bilateral ties in important areas that will contribute to the achievement of the goals set out in our National Social and Economic Plan for the year 2030, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals,» he said.
The Cuban Minister referred to the impact of the unilateral measures of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed for more than 60 years by the US Government, and denounced that this has intensified to unprecedented levels.
Despite this, he said, the Cuban people have not given up their dreams of building a better country for all and for the good of all, and in this endeavour, he thanked the Brics countries and many others around the world for their fraternal support.
Finally, he reiterated the best wishes and success to the Russian authorities in their performance during the pro tempore presidency of the Brics, as well as during the celebration of its XVI Summit, scheduled for October 22-24, 2024, in the city of Kazan.
