Cuba Announces Two Barges Will Generate 124 MW with Russian Fuel

The Ministry of Energy and Mines of Cuba clarified today on its account on social media platform X that two barges, Belgin Sultán and Erol Bay, with an installed capacity of 124 MW, are currently in the country.

According to the Ministry, following the recent arrival of Russian fuel, both will be generating electricity in the second half of this month.

The Ministry also clarified on its X post that no other barges have been brought into the Caribbean country in recent hours.

Recently, the Russian tanker Anatoli Kolodkin arrived in Cuba with approximately 100,000 tonnes of crude oil as part of the solidarity aid from the Russian government.

It was the first tanker vessel to call at Cuban ports in the last three months, after the United States Government decreed a blockade on fuel shipments to the island, having announced sanctions against any country that supplied oil to Cuba.

The Caribbean nation had not received any oil supplies since 9 January, which led to a severe energy crisis.
