Country music will open today the International Symposium Cubadisco 2024, which until the 17th will take place in the May Hall of the Cuba Pavilion in this capital.
Under the slogan Sounds, identities and regions, the theoretical space will begin with welcoming remarks by Yurien Heredia, musicologist at the Centre for Research and Development of Cuban Music.
This will be followed by the panel Punto cubano y su música: patrimonio inmaterial de la humanidad, by musician and multi-instrumentalist Edwin Vichot.
We continue in Arroyo Blanco, among the hills, is the title of the conference to be given later by musicologist Sonia Pérez, director of the National Museum of Music.
Later on, the audience will be introduced to La música campesina en la provincia cubana de Sancti Spíritus: apuntes para su estudio, by researcher Sayli Alba, promoter of the Centro de Promoción Literaria Raúl Ferrer.
The specialist will give way to the virtual presentation Eneida Sosa, «la dama de la tonada», by Camagüey researcher and pedagogue Verónica Elvira Fernández.
Afterwards, musicologist Miraima García, a specialist from the Empresa Comercializadora de la Música Musicávila, will address the challenges of the professional and pedagogical practice of country music in Ciego de Ávila.
El punto cubano en la programación radial en la primera mitad del siglo XX is the title of the virtual presentation to be given by musicologist Amaya Carricaburu, who is also a pedagogue and editor of the Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo de las Música Cubana and the Universidad Internacional de Valencia.
This conference will be followed by the panel Institutional management of peasant music, by the musicologist Sonia Pérez, the poet and director of the Centro Iberoamericano de la Décima y el Verso Improvisado, Luis Paz «Papillo»; the director of television programmes Arnaldo Díaz, and the Cidvi specialist Arlety Medina.
In the afternoon, at 14:00 local time, the Symposium will continue with Oralitura Habana, fenómeno del universo, by Leidys Hernández and Alex Díaz.
The first day of the event will end with the presentation Professional Music Fair «SiSons Enclave Musical», by José Francisco Saavedra (Spain), and the workshop The digital business beyond digital shops (Part 1), by William Patiño, leader of Ditto Music for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Symposium, an event associated with the 27th edition of the International Music Industry Fair Cubadisco, pays tribute to country music, to the 80th birthday of musicologist Danilo Orozco González, and to Colombia as guest of honour.
With ample foreign participation and a display of sound traditions, the Cubadisco Fair will be prestigious until the 19th with notable Cuban artists and others from nations such as Germany, France, Portugal, Brazil, Hungary, Spain, Argentina and Mexico, which doubles last year’s attendance figures.
