The Council of State conducted a detailed evaluation of the Government Programme to correct distortions and re-energise the economy, in an ordinary session headed by Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of that body, with the attendance of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, and Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister, reports the newspaper Granma.
Marrero Cruz reported on the preliminary summary of the public consultation, in which approximately 76,172 meetings were held and 140,348 proposals made.
He noted that the final update proposal will be consulted again with the Council of State, the Council of Ministers, governors, the economic commissions of the Party Central Committee and the National Assembly of People’s Power, prior to its publication.
During the session, the implementation of the agreements adopted by the National Assembly of People’s Power, concerning the Economy Plan and the State Budget, was also examined in depth.
The Prime Minister added that since the previous session, work had been carried out on the approval of the Government Directives to address the fuel supply shortage.
In explaining various actions undertaken in this regard, he stressed that the objective is to guarantee the country’s vitality, without renouncing development, to minimise the impact of disruptions on the population and to promote the use of endogenous resources, diversifying the means of generating hard currency income.
In the debate, Díaz-Canel underscored the importance of strengthening community work, participation and popular control in neighbourhoods, boosting social programmes and seeking solutions with unity and collective input.
Subsequently, the members of the Council of State evaluated the performance of the permanent working commissions of the National Assembly and the results of the Citizen Services activity in its Auxiliary Offices.
