Container of Medical Supplies for Cuba Departs from Spain

The solidarity movement with Cuba in Spain has organized another initiative to collect medical supplies, which will be sent to the Caribbean island in the coming days. The supplies were loaded into a 40-cubic-foot container in Andalusia, spearheaded by the Alhucema Solidarity Initiatives Association based in Morón de la Frontera.

According to Cubainformación, around fifty solidarity activists from across Seville province participated in a day of volunteer work to prepare the shipment. Among those present were Marina Segura, councilor for the United Left in Morón de la Frontera, and Luis Fernández, political secretary of the Spanish Communist Party (PCE) in Seville.

The donation was made possible through financial contributions from institutions such as the Seville Provincial Council, the Morón City Council, and the Canary Islands Government. Organizations like Sodepaz-Andalucía, the José Martí SCCA, and the PCE also played crucial roles in collecting medical supplies over recent months.

Project coordinator Elsa Fernández reported that hundreds of boxes containing a wide variety of medical equipment—including wheelchairs, stretchers, laser-scanning microscopes, ventilators, surgical instruments, operating gowns, and syringes—were packed for shipment.

The container is set to depart from Valencia port on July 26, a symbolic date marking Cuba’s Day of National Rebellion, commemorating the 1953 attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, which ignited the revolutionary struggle against Fulgencio Batista’s dictatorship.

Most of the supplies will be delivered to the «Roberto Rodríguez» Provincial Hospital in Morón (Ciego de Ávila), which has been twinned with Morón de la Frontera since 1994.

In a recent statement, the State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MESC)—a network of over 60 Spanish organizations—reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Cuban Revolution and condemned the U.S. blockade against the island.
