Ciriaco the Rooster Celebrated His Birthday

The Principal Theatre in Ciego de Ávila once again dressed up for a celebration this Saturday, 25 April, when it opened its doors for one of those events that transcend mere entertainment: the birthday celebration of Ciriaco the Rooster, the beloved children’s character from Radio Surco who has accompanied several generations of Avilanians.

Long before the show began, the movement around the coliseum’s surroundings announced a special day. Boys and girls, hand in hand with their families, arrived with excitement written on their faces, ready to meet again with that cheerful and witty character who, through laughter and lessons, is part of the province’s collective memory.

With a full house, laughter, shared feelings, and the euphoria of the little ones returned, confirming once again that there is no greater prize for artists than the sincere applause of the public.

The performances of Rafael González and Maylin Cabrales opened the list of acts, joined by presentations from the Pelusín Children’s Front, the Polichinela Group, the Raúl Rondón House of the Décima, Danza Alrabiat, the Son Armonía Children’s Country Ensemble and the community projects «Tejiendo Sueños» and «Necesitamos de tu sonrisa», among other guests.

Each offering brought colour, music, dance and humour to an afternoon conceived to entertain, but also to educate, an essence that has distinguished the programme since its beginnings on Radio Surco. Ciriaco the Rooster, with his usual charisma, once again demonstrated why he remains alive in the hearts of so many families.

The celebration brought together a broad representation of Avilanian cultural talent on stage.

Artistic direction was by Juan Carlos Pérez, with production by the Centre for Houses of Culture and general direction by Ángel Broche Ruedas, responsible for a dynamic staging that connected well with the child audience.

One of the most emotional moments of the day came with the awards ceremony of the drawing competition organised by the programme. Children from Ciego de Ávila and Morón received recognition for their works, while the Clotilde Aguedo Cepeda Secondary School was distinguished as the school with the highest participation.

More than just a children’s show, the rainy afternoon at the friendly rooster’s birthday confirmed the enduring nature of a cultural symbol that continues to awaken smiles. If Ciriaco the Rooster sings, Ciego de Ávila will always respond with a warm ovation.
