Ciego de Avila municipalities with zero infant mortality rate

The municipalities of Primero de Enero and Majagua, in Ciego de Avila, reported zero infant mortality during the year just ended, said a source from the health sector.

The director of Public Health in Ciego de Avila, Nilka Pita, said that both territories were among the 25 in the country that closed 2023 with no deaths of children under one year of age.

She pointed out that the province of Avila reached an infant mortality rate of 7.5 per 1,000 live births, a figure lower than that obtained in 2022, but higher than the national average of 7.1.

Cuba is developing the Maternal and Infant Care Program, called PAMI, which is governed by the Ministry of Public Health and with priority in all provinces, guarantees the wellbeing of children, pregnant women and puerperal women.
