China Reaffirms Its Support for Cuba in the Face of New United States Pressure

China expressed its support for Cuba and rejected the actions of the United States Government against the Caribbean nation, in particular, measures aimed at causing greater obstacles to its oil supply.

«China is deeply concerned and strongly condemns the actions of the United States,» stated the spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun, at a press conference today, while also calling for the immediate lifting of the blockade and sanctions against Cuba.

The spokesperson urged the US to stop depriving the Cuban people of their right to development, as well as to cease disturbing the peace and stability of the Latin American region.

In his remarks, Guo recalled that the Cuban Foreign Ministry has recently denounced these measures, describing them as an attack against a nation that is hostile to none and as evidence that the economic difficulties faced by Cuba have their fundamental origin in Washington’s coercive policies.

The spokesperson also highlighted China’s confidence that, under the leadership of the Cuban Party and Government, the Cuban people will know how to overcome any difficulty that arises.

Last Friday, Cuba’s Vice Minister of Foreign Relations, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, rejected Washington’s plans to block oil imports to the Island.

In response to a publication by the US media outlet Politico, the Cuban Vice Minister stated that such actions would constitute a «brutal assault against a peaceful nation.»
