Presidential candidate of the Pact Unity for Chile, Jeannette Jara, is preparing a national tour today to present her government programme and dialogue face to face with the electorate.
The journey will begin next 19 August in Valparaíso and will include cities in the north, centre and south of the country.
The standard-bearer of the coalition of left-wing, progressive and social democratic parties recently announced she would cease participating in closed forums with businesspeople to meet with people in the regions, communes or neighbourhoods.
«Less discourse and more contact,» affirmed the former Minister of Labour and Social Security, adding that spaces must be balanced because it cannot be that candidates attend events with those who hold economic power and do not have encounters with the country’s inhabitants.
The most important thing is to see each other face to face with ordinary Chilean men and women, from the regions, who live day to day, struggle to make ends meet and face insecurity, and who not only present problems but also solutions, she said.
After leading in the polls, the candidate and militant of the Communist Party lost first place in this week’s Cadem survey and is in second place with 26 points, behind far-right candidate José Antonio Kast with 28.
In third place is Evelyn Matthei, of the traditional right-wing alliance Chile Vamos (16), followed by Franco Parisi of the People’s Party (12).
The presidential and legislative elections will take place on 16 November and the second round is scheduled for 14 December.
