Baseball Cup for Fidel’s Centenary

There will be no Provincial Championship this year, but instead the Centenary Cup, which will salute Fidel’s birth and aims to keep the main Avilanian baseball players in form before the start of the 65th National Series.

The competition will begin next Friday, 8 May, with the participation of four teams: Northern Selection, Southern Selection, Under-23s and the Youth squad.

The schedule plans for games on weekends, all at the José Ramón Cepero stadium, and the competition system will be a double round-robin, culminating on 30 May when the top two teams contest the title.

The Baseball Technical Commission in the territory is also seeking to ensure that members of the under-23 and Youth teams have competitive activity, as it is not yet known whether there will be national tournaments for those categories.

The new manager of Los Tigres for the 65th contest is still unknown, someone who will have the difficult task of replacing the late Dany Miranda, who, despite having a low-profile team, led his Tigres to be protagonists, especially in the 63rd National Series, in which they earned the right to go to the postseason and were later crowned in the Third Elite League.
