In the province of Ciego de Ávila, contingency measures are being adopted with a view to the labour and salary protection of workers, given the negative impact of the energy blockade declared by the United States government against Cuba, in its imperialist desire to suffocate the people and the Cuban Revolution.
Orlando Díaz Rodríguez, provincial director of Labour and Social Security, in statements to the Equilibrio Magazine of Avilanian Television, explained that as a first option, entities are being encouraged to introduce teleworking or remote work where possible, given the energy restrictions.
He added that this experience is being applied in various institutions in the province with excellent results, with more than 870 people having taken it up to date to work from their homes.
Likewise, several workplaces are making adjustments to their schedules in order to operate their working day as before, but only from Monday to Thursday, thus dedicating Friday to priority activities such as Defence or the change of labour for the cleaning and sanitisation of the community, clarified Díaz Rodríguez.
He commented that another of the employment options given the difficult circumstances of the energy blockade against the country is job relocation, either within the centres themselves or across the territories, in activities of social interest and economic importance, food production, agricultural work, among other priorities.
As a last resort, he pointed out, the figure of work interruption is applied, as provided for in current legislation, which establishes that during the first month, a salary equivalent to the basic monthly salary is guaranteed to all workers in that workplace, and subsequently a job offer is made in other entities within the territory that require it at that time.
Díaz Rodríguez made available to the public the telephone numbers of the Provincial Directorate of Labour and Social Security in Ciego de Ávila, 33 224675 and 33 223030, to contact and resolve workers’ doubts due to these changes in light of the worsening of the energy contingency.
