The swimmers from Ciego de Ávila shone at the international competition Gran Reto de Aguas Abiertas Varadero 2025, where they obtained a total of five medals.
The Avilanian mermaid Lienny de la Caridad Bernal was the most outstanding figure after being crowned absolute champion in the three-kilometre event, category 15 years and over, conquering the gold medal.
For his part, Pedro Pablo Ruiz demonstrated versatility and endurance by achieving silver medals in two demanding events: three and five kilometres.
The team’s success was completed by Reidel Lugo, who climbed onto the podium on two occasions: silver in the relay and bronze in the three kilometres.
These results reflect the excellent moment that the province’s swimming is experiencing and its growing profile in high-level competitions.
