Avilanian company backs tourism development in Jardines del Rey

With diverse and quality products, the Ciego de Avila Construction Materials Company (Avilmat) supported investment programmes in the Jardines del Rey tourist destination, Cuba’s second sun and beach enclave and one of the most prominent in the Caribbean region.

The engineer Alberto Suárez Cid, deputy director of the entity, said that they contributed to works being carried out in the keys located in the north of the provinces of Ciego de Ávila and Camagüey, where they increase hotel and extra-hotel capacities, with high standard facilities that raise the competitiveness of Jardines del Rey and Cuba as tourist destinations.

With one of its base business units located in the municipality of Esmeralda, in the neighbouring province of Camagüey, Avilmat is able to market and transport construction materials to Cayo Cruz, one of the islets located in the north of that territory, where the Gaviota Tourism Group is expanding its infrastructure.

Suárez Cid also added that resources were provided for the repair of the runway at the Jardines del Rey International Airport, which is being carried out by the Ciego de Ávila Construction and Assembly Company.

The constructive actions made it possible for two entities subordinate to the Ministry of Construction to contribute to guaranteeing safety and the progressive increase of operations in an air terminal that has been in existence for 22 years and receives flights from different latitudes.

By providing materials for the production of asphalt, they made possible the improvement and construction of roads in the tourist development zone, providing appropriate conditions for the safe movement of visitors and workers who provide services in these places.

Avilmat supplied construction materials and participated in the repair and revival of works in Jardines del Rey, prior to the XLII International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2024), including the renovation of the sign with the image and phrase of Fidel Castro, located at the entrance of the Turiguanó-Cayo Coco pedraplén.

Delicia Leyva Morales, a specialist in Institutional Communication at Avilmat, said that they also intervened in the construction of a bus stop on the road over the sea, as well as restoring areas of the La Gaviota Shopping Centre and other public spaces in the tourist destination.

In spite of the complex situation with the energy carriers, including the interruptions of the electricity service and the allocation of only 49 percent of the fuel planned for the year, the Avilmat workers, distributed in nine base business units and a central office, will close the year with a production of more than 260,000 cubic metres of aggregates, emphasised its deputy director.

He detailed that this includes sand, granite, gravel and different aggregate substitutes, in addition to more than 660,000 units of blocks of different dimensions, more than 30,000 square metres of flooring, 4,500 tonnes of mortar and more than 18,000 tonnes of crushed gypsum, the latter being a fundamental raw material for making cement.

Likewise, they have developed other alternative productions which, added to the previous ones, have allowed them to earn more than 370 million pesos in national currency during the last stage, a figure higher than the previous year and favourable for the progressive increase in salaries, with an average of 20,000 pesos per month.

Avilmat’s economic conditions also allowed it to increase its contributions to the housing construction programme, the refurbishment of public health institutions and support for other social projects, as well as sponsorship of different districts and assistance to families in vulnerable situations.

An example of a socialist state entity, capable of progressing in the midst of a difficult economic situation in the country, it is also involved in other prioritised tasks, linked to the national programmes of Attention to Demographic Dynamics and for the Advancement of Women.

This social policy includes the construction of a children’s house in the areas of the provincial company, an educational institution that is celebrating its first year of existence, coinciding with a new anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution.
