Avilanian builders support recovery in Santiago de Cuba

A brigade made up of 55 workers from the Construction and Assembly Company of Ciego de Ávila (Conavil) is supporting the recovery work in the province of Santiago de Cuba, affected at the end of last October by the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

José Iván Luis Castro, technical director of Conavil, informed the Cuban News Agency that this team is intervening in sanitation tasks and is integrating with forces from other provinces and the locality to return vitality to the damaged areas.

He specified that they began their work last Monday, a day during which they collected and transported more than 180 cubic metres of rubble, tree remains and waste in the Altamira community, with the help of a backhoe loader, a front loader and 10 dump trucks transported from the Avilanian territory.

At a pace superior to the usual eight hours of work they have maintained during the current week, conscious of the importance of the activity they are carrying out and willing to continue supporting, in this and other tasks, for as long as necessary, an attitude that demonstrates values expressed by the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz in his concept of Revolution.

Also reaffirming this conduct are the preparations to make a donation of clothing items (clothes and footwear), personal hygiene elements, medicines and other products that will contribute to satisfying the needs of the victims.
Luis Castro recalled that on previous occasions they have cooperated with the Santiago people for the recovery after the passage of hydrometeorological events, as happened in 2012, following the affects caused by Hurricane Sandy.

On that date, Conavil brigades participated in sanitation work and later intervened in the construction of housing, he detailed.
Likewise, in November 2024 they contributed to the repair of damages caused by Hurricane Rafael in the Cuban capital; on that occasion they collected more than three thousand cubic metres of rubble, tree remains and waste that obstructed the streets.
In the same way, they mobilised to assemble suitcases with diverse products for the affected families. (Author Román Romero López)
