Vicente Marín, an outstanding baseball figure in Ciego de Ávila, who in his own right occupies a place in the history of the sport, passed away this Saturday.
He started out on the field of La Tasajera in the Vista Alegre district and participated in two youth championships in the team coached by Mario Salas. When he was doing his General Military Service in Villa Clara, he was part of that province’s national team for the national series.
He then played six seasons as a catcher for Granjeros and played in a national team with Camagüeyanos, and in 1978, wearing the Ciego de Ávila uniform, he said goodbye to active sports at the age of 30, but suffering from a herniated disc.
