AHS awards scholarships to young Cuban creators

The National Directorate of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) awarded the El reino de este mundo grant to eight projects by young creators to support the work of their members through direct financing.

According to Yasel Toledo Garnache, vice-president of the AHS, the lucky winners reside in the provinces of Guántanamo, Granma, Holguín, Ciego de Avila, Villa Clara, Matanzas and Havana.

The proposals include the personal exhibition «Memoria del vértigo», by Havana poet and visual artist Giselle Lucía Navarro; the short fiction film «El electricista», by Gerardo Perdomo from Holguín; the staging «Esto es perreo», by Villaclareño dancer and choreographer Enrique Álvarez; and the puppet theater play «El pícaro burlado», by Marcos Alejandro Castillo Thompson from Guantanamo.

The short film «Los hijos de Bernarda», by Adriel Bosch Cascaret, from Guantanamo, with music by Jeafri Lewis Ortiz Manzanares; the EP «Jazz-ta», by Matanzas trio The Heat Transfert; the video art «La ausencia es silencio», by Granma visual artist Katherine de la Paz Herrera; and the animated short film «La pared», by Arletty White, from Avileña.

The official ceremony will be held on December 21 at 5:00 p.m. at the Cuba Pavilion, where other awards for different artistic expressions will be presented.

The kingdom of this world is a scholarship that is open throughout the year, and is the only one of the AHS that only accepts projects of its members, a way to support their creative work with a budget.
