After the Week of Action against Mosquitoes, the workers of the Municipal Department of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology in Ciego de Ávila carry out actions to eradicate the vector.
According to Damaris Villanueva Soutu, director of that entity, since 2016 the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has convened this event.
Its objective is to raise the level of knowledge of communities about the relationship between vectors and the diseases they transmit, such as dengue, chikungunya, zika, yellow fever and malaria.
For this reason, in the provincial capital of Ciego de Ávila, the movement to suppress them continues by destroying the breeding sites for the mosquito that are found inside and around the home, and in the workplace and its surroundings.
They also hold special morning sessions in schools to teach youngsters about the vector and how to combat it, in addition to carrying out a differentiated focal treatment on blocks with repeated focalization.
Villanueva Soutu called for the participation of the community through the family autofocal where they must hermetically cover all the tanks that contain water, clean patios and roof terraces, eliminate objects of little use or useless that accumulate liquids, and contribute with vector control operators and the fumigation of houses.
