Forever Alive

  • Whoever wins the heart of a people does so once and for all, because noble and brave peoples are also grateful, sincere, reciprocal, and incapable of forgetting.

How does a man live even after himself? How does he endure? How does he exist?

These could be the questions of one who never knew him, or of one who, blinded by hatred, refused to do so. But there is a way in which a man becomes eternal, in which a century of existence is but a brief moment for the eternity that accompanies him.

It is something uncommon, but when it happens, the feeling that underpins that afterlife is so strong that no known force can tear it from the people’s chests. Because it is from there that it comes, from the chest, that place where exceptional beings are sown, those who live more for others than for themselves, those who make others’ pain their own, those who do not ask for justice but fight to the last breath for it, those who always believe in triumph, not through luck, but through the value of infinite sacrifice to achieve it.

When a people have such a son, such a brother, such a father, they resolutely refuse to let him fade into the eternal mist of time, and they turn him into sun, and sky, and grant him the privilege of enduring because they can, because they want to, and no one can deny them that right.

Whoever wins the heart of a people does so once and for all, because noble and brave peoples are also grateful, sincere, reciprocal, and incapable of forgetting.

That is why, if someone still asks themselves those questions (How does a man live even after himself? How does he endure? How does he exist?), we can answer them, from the left side of our chest and our thought, that he is no ordinary man, that he who endures and travels through time with his steps is Fidel Castro Ruz, and that the mere mention of his name in any corner of this planet embodies much of the highest, most transparent and just aspects of the human condition.
