Cuba’s Beaches at the Core of the International Tourism Fair

The 44th International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2026) will take place from 6 to 10 May next at the resort of Varadero (in the western province of Matanzas), an event that today focuses above all on Cuban beaches, reports Prensa Latina.

Precisely, this year it will be dedicated to the Sun and Beach sector, located in Varadero itself, and with Canada as the guest of honour market. Hence, this year’s priority, or focus topic, are precisely, the organisers reiterate, Cuban beaches, which are always at the forefront of island tourism due to their conservation, beauty and variety, and this is repeated in 2026.

Tour guides and the country’s own Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) uphold this claim, to the point that despite the diversification of offers, such proposals are always preferred by foreign visitors and locals for their golden sands, turquoise waters and a history many wish to enjoy more than once.

With over 5,746 kilometres of coastline and an archipelago of more than 4,000 cays and islands, Cuba is a paradise for those seeking the perfect combination of sun, sand and sea. The country has approximately 430 natural beaches, according to the Cuban Institute of Oceanology.

Of these, around 50 possess the necessary development and infrastructure for international tourism. The combination of warm waters, fine sand, coral reefs and a privileged geographical position make it a first-class sun destination worldwide.

Cuban beaches are characterised by their geographical diversity. In the north, from Havana to Holguín, extensive white sand beaches with calm waters and hues ranging from turquoise to emerald green predominate, protected by the island shelf and coral barriers.

On the southern coast, beaches are typically narrower, with darker sand (golden or even black in some areas of volcanic origin), and a sea with stronger waves and intense blue. Most beaches have a gentle slope, ideal for family bathing.

And travellers’ fondness for this island’s beaches is apparent year-round, regardless of some cold appearing in winter, because the slightly lower temperatures (20 degrees Celsius, for example) only capture attention for a few days out of the 365.
