Seminar Commemorates the 100 Years of the First Communist Party of Cuba

Unity as a transformative force of the nation and the decisive role of Fidel Castro in its consolidation were highlighted today during the inauguration of the commemorative seminar «One Hundred Years Since the Founding of the First Communist Party of Cuba».

Organised by the Fidel Castro Ruz Centre and the «Ñico López» Communist Party University, the event addressed the historical context of the birth, in 1925, of that political organisation, a precursor to the current Communist Party of Cuba.

During the session, the work of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution to articulate the different political forces around a common project was especially emphasised. «The Commander in Chief understood that without unity, no Revolution is possible,» stated the deputy director of the Fidel Castro Ruz Centre, Sisi Abay.

According to the researcher, Fidel Castro worked tirelessly to unite the revolutionary forces, overcome differences, and build, from diversity, a shared national project. «He taught us that unity is not just a formal agreement, but an act of political maturity,» she maintained.

The seminar also served as a space for the analysis of nearly twenty papers presented by 10 academic and political institutions in the country. Furthermore, the photographic exhibition «Granma in the Mystique of Fidel» was inaugurated and various books related to the theme were presented.

Among the interventions, the paper «Notes on Two Historic Dates: the Founding of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Slogan ‘Socialism or Death'», by the political leader Enrique Villuendas, stood out.

According to the digital site Ecured, the first Communist Party of Cuba was a political organisation of Marxist orientation, representing the interests of the working class and popular sectors, founded in Cuba between the 16th and 17th of August 1925. This party was the successor of the Cuban Revolutionary Party and in turn constituted a precursor to what is today the Communist Party of Cuba.
