National Baseball Series: The Defence of the Privileged Zone

The 64th National Baseball Series remains heated and today a new round of duels begins where the «big» teams will seek not to detach from the privileged zone, while those at the bottom dream of causing an upset

The Santiago de Cuba Wasps (15-3) and the Matanzas Crocodiles (16-4) arrive at this session as favourites and with their sights set on not letting go of the top

The Santiagueros, despite some doubts in their pitching, have shown that their batting is pure dynamite: 180 runs and 40 home runs make them a true volcano on the field. Matanzas, for its part, seems to have its defence and pitching under control, and the Guantanameros (3-17) will have to row hard to complicate their path

Further down, Industriales and the Hunters are tied in third place (12-5) and also present themselves as favourites. The Capitalinos will try to take advantage of their offence and decent pitching against the Villa Clara Leopards (5-13), while Artemisa trusts in its pitchers and its solid defence to stop the Ciego de Ávila Tigers (7-10)

There is no shortage of encounters where the excitement will be at its peak. Holguín (13-7) seeks to sustain its good run against Pinar del Río (8-12), Las Tunas (11-6) wants to recover its rhythm against Mayabeque (9-10), and the Sancti Spíritus Roosters (12-8) and Camagüey Bulls (10-10) will fight to not fall out of the top eight positions in their commitments against Granma (7-11) and the weak Isla de la Juventud Pirates (3-16)

The Series continues to make it clear that, in this Cuban baseball, even with clear favourites, any game can change the story
