Dr C. Alicia Alonso Becerra, Vice Minister of Higher Education, presided over the partial review of the work objectives for the present 2025-2026 academic year at the Máximo Gómez Báez University of Ciego de Ávila (UNICA), in this province.
During the exchange, the main indicators of the first semester were evaluated, with the purpose of correcting difficulties and drawing up actions that guarantee a successful fulfilment of the goals at the year’s end, in this institution accredited as one of Excellence.
The Vice Minister insisted on the importance of this process for academic planning and organisation, which is carried out systematically across the entire Cuban higher education system.
We analysed the assurance of the next course, which resumes the traditional calendar from September to July, to check how it is guaranteed from undergraduate, postgraduate and all university processes, explained Alonso Becerra to the Cuban News Agency.
She also specified that the present year coincides with the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the constitution of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), for which the country’s network of universities will develop an extensive programme of activities.
As part of the visit, the vice minister learned about territorial development projects of the Avilanian higher education institution and emphasised the decisive role that university centres should have in the development of strategic sectors and municipalities.
The partial review of work objectives constitutes a key tool for monitoring and planning, in order to strengthen academic quality and the comprehensive development of the university.
