On 22nd August 1961 the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) was founded, a convergence space for the Cuban intelligentsia that contributed to solidifying cultural and national identity.
Its creation with the National Poet, Nicolás Guillén, as its president, also responded to the objective of preserving the project of social justice and national independence.
Likewise it united the artistic vanguard of the island in pursuit of its development.
Among the purposes of UNEAC are to stimulate, protect and defend creation. It drives through various forms of promotion, both in Cuba and abroad, the cultural development of those who comprise it.
Today, 64 years after its creation, it does not renounce its legacy and continues as an important link in the development of artistic creation in Cuba and its promotion on the island and beyond its borders.
