Dancing at Home: a journey into our identities

For the third time, Danzar en casa, in Ciego de Ávila, is organising the national event Los Días de la Danza (Dance Days) as a sui generis, non-competitive event with a wide range of expressions, including those more attached to folkloric and popular traditions, as well as contemporary dance and its most current fusions.

With a significant international representation from Paraguay, Mexico, Colombia and Italy, the event will take place from April 27th to May 1st, while the Contemporary Ballet of Camagüey and groups from Avila, such as the «FanmZetwal» Dance Music Company, one of the main motivations of the Festival, have been invited from Cuba.

Also expected to take part are the Zamá Folkloric Company, ALarte Dance Company, the Art Nova Musical Performing Arts Project, as well as the Metanoia Contemporary Dance Company, the Nagó Musical Dance Ensemble, the Gamahd Urban Dance Group and the Telón Abierto Musical Dance Artistic Ensemble, among other groups.

Lupe Díaz Beracierto, creator of the event, explained to Invasor that the meeting aims to promote, preserve and make visible the dance cultural heritage of our region, through the exchange of cultures, including teaching techniques and diverse styles.

«Danzar en Casa: viaje a nuestras identidades», is the motto chosen for this third edition of 2025, which also highlights the historical memory of the dancer Viviana Alejandra Díaz Guedes, who suffered fascist outrages in a concentration camp for not renouncing her Cuban citizenship, and who is the first postmortem Illustrious Daughter of the City of the Rooster.

Danzar en casa includes in its programme book presentations, conferences, workshops and dance marathons in public squares such as in the central José Martí Park in Ciego de Ávila and in the Agramonte Park in Morón with the Reverbero Sociocultural Project.
