The electricity system continues to be affected in the central-eastern region of the country.

Daniel Pérez García, director of Empresa Eléctrica in Ciego de Ávila, described the situation of the national electricity system as very difficult, accelerated by the lack of fuel and the shutdown of the Lidio Ramon Pérez (Felton) and Renté Thermal Power Plants, together with nine other units, which has severely affected the Central-Eastern region of Cuba.

Pérez García, gave an overview of the state of the system and the conditions of the territory and reported that the bioelectricity is generating between 20 and 30 MW per day coupled to the national system.

He also added that the high energy transfer to the central-eastern part of the country requires a greater load balance to avoid an automatic frequency trip (DAF) as a protection measure and the collapse of the national electricity system, hence the seriousness of the consequences this could have for the thermoelectric power plants.

He added that in the territory, service was maintained at the Antonio Luaces Iraola provincial teaching hospital and the Roberto Rodríguez hospital in Morón, as well as at the dairy products company in both municipalities.

Pérez García pointed out that the high levels of deficit in the generation capacity make it impossible to comply with the rotation of the blocks and the time of affectation will be in correspondence with the availability of the system.

Referring to the time of affectation, the director pointed out that despite not complying with the established schedule, the province is among those with the shortest time of affectation per circuit in the country.

The municipalities of Bolivia and Majagua are currently the most affected due to their distance from the microsystems installed in the province.

The head of the electricity company in Ciego de Avila said that if supplies permit, by the end of the first quarter of the year the Norte photovoltaic park with a generating capacity of 21.87 MW will be inaugurated.
