17 crew members rescued from sunken ship in Russian port of Kavkaz

Emergency services rescued 17 crew members from a fuel tanker that sank after a Ukrainian attack in the Russian port of Kavkaz in Krasnodar, the territory’s governor, Veniamin Kondratiev, said today.

Seventeen crew members have been rescued so far, but the rescue operation continues, as two people are still missing, Kondratiev posted on his Telegram channel on Friday.

The governor thanked the emergency services for their quick response, adding that anti-pollution booms were installed in the port to prevent fuel spills and sorbent was applied to the water surface.

Earlier on Thursday, the region’s operational headquarters reported that Ukraine attacked a ferry with fuel tanks that sank due to damage.

The Russian Ministry of Transport reported that the situation in the port is under the control of the Russian security services.
