Work to improve water supply continues

Collectives of the Empresa de Acueducto y Alcantarillado in the province are carrying out work to improve services to the population in the municipalities of Ciego de Ávila and Morón, the areas with the most complex problems.

Support brigades from the municipalities of Baraguá, Majagua and Primero de Enero are helping to eliminate leaks in the capital of Avila. Last Wednesday alone, 11 had been resolved in the Indalecio Montejo Popular Council, Miroslava Reyes González, the company’s director general, told Invasor.

With regard to the announced installation of two 100 litre per second pumps to the south of the provincial capital, she said that, «although we maintain that purpose in San Fernando, the pumps remain in a workshop in San José de las Lajas, as we still do not have the import wire for these works».

Similarly, he reiterated that reducing the delivery cycle of the liquid continues to be a work priority, however, in the current conditions it is impossible to do it in less than seven days, since the city only receives 280 litres per second, instead of the 600 litres per second it demands.

The day when the supply is available is used to deal with obstructions and to supply homes that do not receive the service through the water networks by means of pipes.

As part of the work, the rehabilitation of networks continues in Morón and the cleaning of pits in several municipalities, however, on Thursday the number of pits on standby amounted to 362.

«Of 13 teams dedicated to these tasks, only five remain active, the rest are paralysed due to a lack of batteries and tyres,» he explained.
