Vietnamese President Luong Cuong today received the Cuban delegation, led by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, on a two-day official visit to the Southeast Asian country.
The Cuban Foreign Minister thanked Cuong for the reception and the exchange, which he described as productive.
«We highlighted the progress made in various areas of bilateral interest,» Rodríguez Parrilla commented on the meeting.
He also said he conveyed to the Vietnamese president the affectionate greetings of his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and the invitation to visit the largest of the Antilles.
On this day, the Cuban delegation also paid homage to the Vietnamese independence hero, President Ho Chi Minh, at the mausoleum where his mortal remains lie in Hanoi, the capital.
Rodríguez Parrilla laid a wreath to the leader of Vietnam’s independence, a great friend of Cuba.
«Ho Chi Minh assured that his people would triumph and a Vietnam a thousand times more beautiful would be built. Today we are witnesses to that augury come true,» wrote the Foreign Minister.
As part of the work programme, a meeting was held with Bui Thanh Son, Vietnam’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister.
According to Rodríguez Parrilla, they highlighted the results of the permanent exchange of visits at the highest level, as well as the brotherhood, solidarity and mutual trust forged in more than six decades of bilateral relations.
On Tuesday, Rodriguez Parrilla held a meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, kicking off the agenda of the Cuban representation in Vietnam.
According to the schedule, today, Wednesday, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (PCV), To Lam, will also receive the delegation from the Caribbean nation, and a meeting will be held with members of the Cuban diplomatic mission.
Vietnam is the third stop on a tour of Asian countries that began on 12 February in Malaysia, as part of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Rodríguez Parrilla, accompanied by the Minister’s Chief of Secretariat, Nelson Tamayo Caro, and the Foreign Ministry’s Director for Asia and Oceania, Ariel Lorenzo Rodríguez, then visited Singapore, and after concluding their stay in Hanoi they will leave for Laos.
