Franklin Túa, talent scout for the Tiburones de la Guaira club, spoke to JIT at the end of the tryout at the Estadio Latinoamericano.
With demonstrations of baseball talent in Cuba, the tryout at the Estadio Latinoamericano, attended by six experts from four foreign professional leagues, came to an end today.
In the exhibitions, the best players seen by the specialists in the national tryout showed their skills, along with several figures of the pre-selection formed for the Premier 12 Tournament.
One of those scouts present was the Venezuelan Franklin Túa, from the Tiburones de la Guaira club, who told JIT exclusively that he was able to fulfil the objective of his visit.
«I came mainly in search of starting pitchers, without ruling out other position players, and I had my eye on Pinar del Río’s Branlis Rodríguez and Randy Martínez, along with Pavel Hernández from Havana,» said Túa, who in the past was also a scout for the Milwaukee Brewers and Toronto Blue Jays.
«We want to reinforce the Tiburones’ starting pitching staff. I take those three names to my directors, I explain why I chose them and they decide later if a contract is prepared for them,» Túa said.
The Venezuelan specialist assured that in his country’s league there are very experienced players, who have gone through Triple A and Major League Baseball in the United States, and that is why he has focused mainly on some established figures who are now training in the Latin for the Premier 12.
«I was very pleased with the talent I was able to see in this tryout. Cuba has a good group of players capable of replacing the more experienced players in the near future, without lowering the level of their baseball,» he concluded.
