Social and popular movements, together with the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, will turn Caracas from today until 4 February into a hive of people to celebrate and support President Nicolás Maduro.
Intense days of mobilisations are expected in streets, avenues and public spaces to develop cultural, recreational and political activities before, during and after the swearing-in of the head of state on 10 January before the National Assembly (Parliament).
The streets of Caracas «will remain in constant dynamism, reflecting the unity, commitment and loyalty that characterises us», declared the PSUV’s vice-president of Mobilisation, Nahum Fernández.
Sports meetings, traditional games, parades, masses, back-to-school activities (7 January), mobilisations and motorised caravans will be some of the proposals, announced Fernández.
Representatives of more than 35 social and political movements from around the world will travel to Caracas to participate in Maduro’s inauguration for the 2025-2031 term, after winning the presidential elections on 28 July with 51.95 percent, the president announced a few days ago.
Media sources reported that official delegations from Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean, including China, Russia, Belarus, Turkey, Namibia, Algeria, Cuba, Nicaragua and Bolivia, were present at the swearing-in ceremony on 10 January.
In this context, the Anti-Fascist World Youth Congress and the second chapter of the Anti-Fascist Congress of Social and Political Movements will take place from 7-12 January, where thousands of delegates from all over the world are expected to attend.
On 11 January, a big concert is planned in the Plaza Diego Ibarra, next to the National Electoral Council, which will continue the celebrations for the inauguration of the President.
Also on 26 January, the Communal Power will hold the first of four popular consultations this year in which the people will choose their community projects at the grassroots.
On 4 February, the Bolivarian people, the government and the National Armed Forces will commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the civil-military rebellion led by Commander Hugo Chávez (1954-2013).
Last week Maduro called for «permanent mobilisation, with joy and in different ways, carrying our project with (Simón) Bolívar and (Antonio José de) Sucre».
The head of state assured that on 10 January the popular forces will be present and stressed that on that day «Venezuelans will be sworn in with the joy that characterises us for what is ours and for the homeland».
