President Nicolás Maduro said today that Venezuela is on its feet and ready to continue walking its destiny in the 21st century, after the results of Sunday’s elections proclaimed him the winner.
In a ceremony before hundreds of supporters at the Miraflores Palace, the seat of government, after learning of his victory with 51.20 percent of the vote, the president said that this is the triumph of hope, of truth and points the way of Commander Hugo Chávez (1954-2013).
This will allow us to persevere in the construction of an alternative country to savage capitalism and to advance towards our socialism with Indo-American roots, he added.
The president said that in this new mandate given to him by the people «I swear that I will give my whole life to carry out all the changes and transformations that the country needs» in order to move towards a destiny of peace, social happiness and to rescue all the rights violated by the economic war.
He revealed that he received congratulatory calls from Army General Raúl Castro, leader of the Cuban Revolution, from the presidents of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Agreement, from his brothers in the Caribbean and beyond.
«The voice of peace triumphed and in Venezuela there will be peace for our homeland», he assured; he warned that they will not allow a spiral of violence and called «not to allow ourselves to be dragged down by the violence of fascism».
The dignitary, who was elected by the majority of the Venezuelan people for a six-year term (2025-2031), declared that they could not withstand sanctions, aggressions, threats or the dignity of the Venezuelan people.
Thank you for the triumph of peace, stability, the republican ideal and the ideas of equality, he emphasised, and called for respect for the decision of 28 July.
Maduro reiterated the call for a harmonious, loving dialogue and «I know how to do it, we want it».
I want love, dialogue and understanding, and I have the power you have given me and the civic-military-police union to promote economic, social, cultural, moral and spiritual dialogue, he remarked.
The re-elected president denounced a massive attack on the data transmission system of the National Electoral Council (CNE) because «the demons did not want it to be totalled and the official bulletin to be given».
The president said he knew where they did it and who ordered it, and said that the case is in the hands of the Attorney General’s Office to carry out an investigation and achieve justice for the people.
After midnight on Sunday, the CNE reported the results of the presidential elections, which had a turnout of 59 per cent with 80 per cent of the votes counted, a figure that marks «a strong and irreversible trend», according to the highest electoral body.
