The University of the Arts (Isa) in the capital will today host the opening ceremony of the fifth round of cultural training courses for 72 young creators and students from the Caribbean.
The workshops are sponsored by the Transcultura programme, implemented by Unesco and financed by the European Union, as part of the activities of the Caribbean Cultural Training Pole, created within the scope of this programme to strengthen the capacities of young cultural professionals in the region and boost their careers.
The courses will be offered by the Isa, the Instituto Superior de Diseño (Isdi) and the Fondo Cubano de Bienes Culturales in collaboration with the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro, each of which will be taught in Spanish with English interpretation for 12 students.
The courses will focus on the teaching of Cuban folk dances, silkscreen printing, the creation of dynamic images, the conservation of paintings and industrial design, while a new round dedicated to the conservation and restoration of heritage will be inaugurated on 7 October.
Cuban folk dances, artistic screen printing and design of commercial spaces will be taught from 9 to 20 September.
Furniture design will take place from 9 September to 4 October, while Creation of dynamic images, and Pictorial materials in art and conservation: the cleaning of paintings, from 23 September to 4 October.
The cultural gala in the Aula Magna of the educational institution will be attended by the director of Unesco’s Regional Office in Havana, Anne Lemaistre, among other representatives of the organisations involved. Transcultura: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity builds capacities and creates opportunities through training, entrepreneurship support, cultural exchange and the promotion of sustainable tourism for young cultural professionals in the Caribbean.
To date, 629 have been trained in 39 courses offered by the Pole, while the Transcultura programme facilitated the purchase of materials and equipment for member institutions.
