Tribute to Ciego de Avila cyclists in sports talk show

The history of cycling in Ciego de Avila, which was once considered the capital of this discipline, was the central theme of the «El Té Deportivo» (Sports Tea) discussion, which is held monthly in the Antonio Ñico García Sports History Room.

It was a day full of memories, anecdotes, jokes, a lot of human warmth and, above all, passion for sport. Very gratifying were the life testimonies given by several personalities, among them the Treto brothers (Moisés and Hernán), Gerardo Ochoa, Arnaldo Bringa and René Espinosa, all of whom have participated in cycling tours of Cuba.

Also remembered were Gregorio Bullón, pioneer of this sport in the territory of Avila, and the outstanding trainer Roberto Castañeda.

The participants were able to enjoy an audiovisual presentation that shows, in a panoramic way, facts and the actions of the glories of cycling in the terroir. In this regard, Professor Olga Lidia Cartaya provided photos, documents and insisted on the need to compile and leave written and documentary evidence of a discipline whose results in the province earned it the right to be named as the Capital of Cycling in Cuba.
