The Series from the Inside… and the World Baseball Classic

They constituted topics of analysis in the exchange between the national commission and the specialised press

The analysis of topics related to the 64th National Series and the World Baseball Classic were highlighted today in the traditional exchange between the directors of this sport and the specialised press, in the Adolfo Luque Room of the Latin American Stadium.

Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, the national commissioner, referred to the number of beanballs thrown by pitchers after conceding a home run.

To stop this malpractice once and for all, he commented that a new disciplinary document has been drafted which is in the process of being approved.

This is one of the reasons why umpires have indicated 16 ejections – four last week – so far in the tournament. And five severe sanctions for reasons of force majeure.

Pérez Pardo disapproved of this tendency to throw intentional beanballs, something which, he stated, did not occur either in the Elite League or in the past National Under-23 Championship.

The senior director of baseball on the Island explained in detail the reasons why three of the eight scheduled sub-series did not begin this Tuesday.

Las Tunas-Ciego de Ávila due to a lack of capacity because of problems with accommodation at the Las Tunas hotel. It will be played from Friday (double-header) until Monday morning.

Industriales moved from the Isle of Youth to Batabanó and was due to arrive in Granma for the particular duel against the Alazanes. The journey was delayed and they will start on Wednesday with a double-header.

Due to problems with the transportation of the umpires, Sancti Spíritus-Isle of Youth will also play a double-header this Wednesday at the Nueva Gerona stadium.

Pérez Pardo asserted that with considerable time before the start of the season, the national federation prepared the schedule and sent it to each province, trying to avoid these incidents.

Carlos Martín, the Series director, announced the selection of the best players of the week: Edilse Silva (SCU, positional player, 187 votes) and Leodán Nuñez (PRI, pitcher, 127).

Martín commented that there is a request from 23 municipalities to host matches in the current campaign. He also mentioned that the stadiums most visited by the public in these first three sub-series are those in the provinces of Camagüey, Holguín, and Las Tunas.

Regarding Cuba’s participation in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, Pérez Pardo confirmed that no action can be taken until the Cuban federation receives the licence from the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

«We are optimistic and hope to receive permission to attend, as has happened in the five previous editions. We have done preparatory work regarding the players we are going to summon who do not reside in our country. There are also athletes of Cuban descent who were born in another country and have shown interest in representing Cuba,» stated the also president of the national baseball federation.
