The Crazy Cars Park Rises Again in Ciego de Ávila (+Photos)

Everyone in Ciego de Ávila knows it as «el parque de los carritos locos»—the place where, in the memories of locals, children’s laughter blends with the hum of engines and background music.

Since its inauguration in 2010, visitors to Parque de la Ciudad have flocked to its bumper cars, which have become its signature attraction over the years. Now, as part of celebrations for July 26th (National Rebellion Day), the park—managed by the Palmares S.A. Extra-Hotel Enterprise—is transforming to restore its charm while staying true to the essence that made it beloved.

This isn’t just a fresh coat of paint or new lights. The restoration touches every corner: from the classic train and soon-to-reopen flying chairs to the dance floor where generations have danced, or relived the hits of the 90s. Even those carritos locos, the park’s undisputed kings, are being repaired to remain the star attraction for visitors of all ages.

But there’s more: new additions include arcade games in the central plaza and a shooting range with Springfield-style pistols. For those seeking relaxation, «El Barco 26 de Julio»—a snack bar with seating for 40—will soon open, serving seafood, cold beer, and even live music at night. No reservations, no fuss: as always, the park remains a place to drop by and enjoy.

Remarkably, amid hammering and painting, Palmares’ area, adjacent to the children’s park, has stayed open daily from 10 AM to 8 PM. Soon, once renovations wrap up, casino dance nights and themed evenings will return.

This isn’t just routine maintenance. It’s a promise to the community that one of its favourite parks remains a vital part of the city.

With all eyes on Ciego de Ávila for July 26th, workers are breathing new life into this urban landmark. Those beloved carritos locos aren’t just machines—they’re memories, now refurbished, ready to keep rolling and create more.
