Cuban exponents are expected to be present at several of the scheduled events.
Havana – As has become customary, Dubai will mark the start of the Parathlon Grand Prix 2025 circuit, which will include seven stops with the novelty that one of them will be exclusively for women.
Between 10 and 13 February, the event will be held in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, registered as the 16th edition of the Fazza International Parathletics Championships, which has already opened its registration options.
The programme will be followed by the Prince Moulay El Hassan International Meeting (24-26 April) in Marrakech, Morocco, and two weeks later the attention will turn to America, as two stops will be held on its territory.
The XI Abierto Mexicano de Paratletismo de Jalisco in Mexico (9-12 May) will be the first. Without much time for rest, the next stop will be the Colombian city of Cali, where the action will take place from the 16th to the 19th of the same month.
On 2 June, the Handisport Open de Paris is scheduled to begin, with a calendar that will run until 4 June at the Stade de Charléty in the French capital. The next competitive segment will be the XIX International Meeting of Tunis (16 to 18 June).
The women’s only meeting will be held in the Czech city of Olomouc from 3 to 5 July, which has hosted other parathletics events, such as the World Youth Championships and the Czech Open, to close the circuit.
The new event, which represents a great challenge for the organisers, aims to promote the practice of para-athletics among women and to increase their access to elite competitions.
The event will be held at the TJ Lokomotiv Olomouc stadium, where a press conference will be held on 2 December in the presence of the city’s mayor as part of the event’s promotional activities.
As happens every season, Cuban para-athletes will take part in several of the rallies, as confirmed to JIT by officials from the Inder’s department of sport for people with disabilities.
Work is currently underway to define the strategy in terms of the number of representatives and the phases in which they will be competing.
However, it is very likely that the group will be made up of several established figures, including long jumper Robiel Yankiel Sol and javelinist Guillermo Varona, both champions of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
Among the women, multi-time sprinter Omara Durand, who announced her retirement after reigning in the City of Light, will be missed.
