In the fertile lands of the nursery of the Ceballos agro-industrial company, the cultivation of a plant called Sacha Inchi, hitherto unknown in Ciego de Avila, is progressing.
This planting is a project carried out in agreement with the CIPB (Centro de Investigaciones en Plantas Proteicas y Productos Bionaturales) in Havana.
Sacha inchi is also known as sacha maní, Inca peanut or jíbaro peanut, and is a semi-woody plant, native to a large part of tropical South America, and is also found in the Caribbean.
Its useful part is the seed, which is rich in Omega 3 and is credited with helping to lower cholesterol and improve cardiovascular health, among other benefits.
Sacha Inchi is currently used for medical purposes as capsules, in food products in the form of nougat and butter, and in the cosmetics industry in the form of anti-wrinkle creams.
In the nursery of the Ceballos agro-industrial company in Ciego de Avila, work is also being done on pitahaya, stevia and aloe vera seedlings, which are progressing thanks to the dedication of the workers in the area.
