Prominent Cuban Hydraulic Engineer Passes Away in Ciego de Ávila

The province of Ciego de Ávila lost today one of the most relevant figures in the hydraulic sector, the engineer Domingo García Aguilar, whose passing has left a profound void in the technical, academic and community spheres.

Since January 1996, García Aguilar served as a fundamental pillar of the Provincial Delegation of Hydraulic Resources, where he stood out for his dedication, technical wisdom and human commitment.

Through a statement on the social network Facebook, the institution remembered him as «an exemplary colleague» and an essential part of the territory’s achievements in matters of water resource management.

His legacy transcends institutional work as he was also the founder of the Hydraulic Engineering degree at the Máximo Gómez Báez University of Ciego de Ávila, where he contributed to rigorously training new generations of professionals.

The Centre for Hydrotechnical Studies (CEH) highlighted his dual contribution in driving university teaching and building a permanent bridge between academia and practice, thereby enriching both educational activity and project execution.

Under his responsibility, numerous hydraulic works that benefited communities, agriculture and the local economy were designed, constructed and maintained.
Furthermore, he institutionalised a collaboration model that allowed the Avilanian university to respond to real needs and the enterprise to incorporate innovation from the classrooms.

Although his departure leaves profound sorrow among colleagues, relatives, friends and disciples, his example of service, excellence and integrative vision remains as a guide for the future of the hydraulic sector in the province and the nation.
