The President of the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Dennis Francis, will today hold official talks with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez as part of his working visit to the Caribbean nation.
On Friday, Francis will pay tribute to José Martí at the memorial dedicated to Cuba’s National Hero, located in the Plaza de la Revolución.
The diplomat’s itinerary also includes a lecture at the Aula Magna of the University of Havana on the theme «Cuba and multilateralism».
During his stay in the Caribbean nation, the UNGA President will meet with President Miguel Díaz-Canel and the Minister of Public Health José Angel Portal.
He will also hold exchanges with the UN Resident Coordinator in Cuba, Francisco Pichón, and other members of the UN Country Team on the island, as well as with representatives of the Federation of Cuban Women.
Francis arrived the day before in the Caribbean nation with the objective of reviewing the country’s progress and contribution to multilateralism, cooperation, regional and global challenges.
Upon his arrival at José Martí International Airport, the head of state said he intended to develop a very detailed and comprehensive exchange on the additional measures that the UN must take in order to advance and execute significant actions in essential aspects, such as the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Cuba.
The UNGA President’s visit will last until 29 June.
