Photovoltaic Systems Support Etecsa Services in Ciego de Ávila

The installation of photovoltaic systems with a capacity of two kilowatts (kW) in various locations across the province of Ciego de Ávila is supporting the services of the Telecommunications Company of Cuba (Etecsa), despite the energy siege imposed by the US government against Cuba.

Reinel Sergio Luna Pérez, head of the Marketing and Communication Group of Etecsa in the Avilanian territory, reported that the Isla de Turiguanó (in Morón); Júcaro (in the municipality of Venezuela); Punta Alegre (in Chambas), Miraflores (in Bolivia) and Limones Palmero (in Majagua), as well as other areas that serve to support signal transmission at various vital points of the network, are equipped with this technology.

In Júcaro, Venezuela municipality, the installation of panels helps stabilise voice and SMS services on mobile telephony and connectivity for priority entities.

The implementation of each system allows the use of sunlight to directly power the equipment and, at the same time, charge the batteries of radio base stations or telephone cabinets.

The solar panels, with a generation capacity of 2 kW, help keep some telecommunications services energised. This makes it possible to operate using renewable energy during daylight hours and reduce dependence on the national electricity system.

In the absence of sunlight, the operating time will depend on battery performance, the load imposed by the number of users connected to the telecommunications network, and the own consumption of each supported technology.

In Punta Alegre, Chambas municipality, the photovoltaic system guarantees fixed telephony and Nauta Hogar services.

With this solution, the system will remain energised as long as weather conditions and the battery autonomy level allow it during power cuts.

These two-kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic systems are part of the 240 that Etecsa received in Ciego de Ávila. The company will continue to increase the use of renewable energy as operational support, a priority that has become even more urgent given the fuel deficit for electricity generation.
