Part of the Cuba baseball team that will play the four-game friendly series against its Nicaraguan counterpart as part of the warm-up for both selections heading towards the World Classic, is today in Managua.
The first group of the Antillean squad arrived last night at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport, where it was received by the president of the Nicaraguan Associated Baseball Federation (Feniba), Nemesio Porras.
«For us it is an honour, it is a joy, to welcome our Cuban brothers, you are at home, this is your land and we hope that these days you are here you have a good preparation, that the game against our team also serves you well,» expressed Porras.
The manager of the Cuban selection, Germán Mesa, expressed his gratitude for the warm-up games that «will serve us as preparation for the upcoming World Classic.»
«We will feel at home, because you have always welcomed us very well and we hope that the schedule goes ahead and turns out very well for both of us in the Classic,» commented, for his part, batting coach Omar Linares.
It was learned that the rest of the Cuban team will arrive in this Central American nation in stages on upcoming flights.
The series of friendly games between Cuba and Nicaragua is scheduled from 19th to 27th February at the Roberto Clemente (Masaya); Yamil Ríos Ugarte (Rivas); Rigoberto López Pérez (León) and Soberanía (Managua) stadiums.
Each of the encounters is shaping up to be a true sporting festival, in which fans will be able to appreciate the main figures of Nicaraguan and Cuban baseball in an atmosphere of preparation and high competitiveness.
