Over one million 500 thousand students will begin the school year

Over one million 500 thousand Cuban students, from preschool to pre-university, including special schools and professional training schools, will begin the school year on 1st September, informed Naima Ariatne Trujillo, head of the Ministry of Education (Mined), at a press conference.

The minister indicated that for this academic period the sector arrives immersed in a process of improvement, which encompasses the updating of study material, and in this sense she specified that new books will arrive gradually throughout the country.

Likewise she expressed that the texts are important for learning, but in turn the methodological tools and guidelines should contribute to a better development of the 2025-2026 course.

She also commented that notebooks and pencils are guaranteed for the students, whilst teachers will be given the resources destined for teaching work.

Regarding uniforms, Trujillo stated that given the difficulties in production, distribution was now prioritised for students who will begin preschool, fifth and seventh grade, while the other levels of education will be benefited subsequently.

Mined officials underlined that to date the execution of the maintenance or repair plan for educational centres has not been completed, although there are notable advances of such actions in the territories.

Also at the press conference the need to efficiently confront the deficit of teachers was discussed, with the western region being the most affected in this matter.

The role of the family for the success of the new school year was insisted upon.

Other representatives from the different structures of Mined attended the meeting.
