They beat Occidentales and lived up to their favouritism in the match.
The Orientales team were crowned champions of the Women’s Superior Basketball League after beating their rivals Occidentales in two games.
The Easterners had beaten their rivals in the first match of the dispute for the title, held in the multipurpose hall of the capital Ramón Fonts, with a score of 63-52.
Now at the Alejandro Urgellés hall in Santiago de Cuba, they completed the sweep with a 74-59 superiority.
The home team secured the first quarter with a 25-11 score, followed by 20-12 and 21-17, which left the western team with a difference of more than 20 points to overcome in the last period.
The losers were erratic from the paint, despite shooting more shots at the rim, the 30% efficiency against the 64% of the eastern side condemned them to «row» against the tide, and it was useless that they prevailed in the last period 19-8.
Cheila Molina scored 21 points and her teammate Yaiset Fraguela 19, however, only they held all the offensive weight of the western team and that was not enough.
The home team distributed their attack much better, so much so, that three women surpassed double digits in that aspect: Rachel Contreras (13), Arianne Lisset Mena (10) and Taimí Casaco (10).
Others even came close: María Carla Revelo (9), Keila Sagarra (9) and Dislaine Vicente (8).
The champions dominated the tournament from the start and only lost once, to Occidentales. Centroccidentales deserved the bronze medal.
