In the Nguyen Van Troi Provincial Psychiatric Teaching Hospital in Ciego de Avila, a women’s ward dedicated to alcohol and other drug addiction was inaugurated.
In medical terms, detoxification is a therapeutic process for the elimination or reduction of a dependency that damages the physical and moral health of people.
Avila’s psychiatric professionals work in the new service to free women from addictions and reintegrate them into their families and society.
Although the addictive consumption of alcohol and drugs is not a notable problem in the province, the existing cases deserve the attention of the health sector, which is why this new ward was created in the psychiatric hospital in the capital of Avila.
The women admitted to the health institution undergo pharmacological treatment to eliminate alcohol dependency, psychological care and personalised rehabilitation, according to the characteristics of each patient.
