New bite from Holguín Cubs in 64th SNB

The north-eastern team won the particular subseries 4-1 against Artemisa.

With an offence of 16 hits, the leading Holguín Cubs defeated the Artemisa Hunters 10×3 this Sunday and won the bilateral pairing 4-1 in the 64th National Baseball Series.

Playing away at the 26 de Julio Stadium, the north-eastern squad counted on home runs from Lázaro Cedeño – his eleventh of the tournament – and Yasiel González, who achieved his number 15 and remained as the leader in that department. Both drove in a pair of runs in a game in which Artemisa left 11 runners on base and committed two errors.

Furthermore, the local Matanzas Crocodiles prevailed 11×6 over the reigning champion Las Tunas Woodcutters, at their Victoria de Girón park.

Sixth victory for the young reliever, Silvio Iturralde. For the Yumurinos of mentor Armando Ferrer there were home runs from José Amaury Noroña and a decisive one from Hangelo Videt in the eighth episode, with two teammates on base. The Woodcutters committed four errors.

Industriales Lions manufactured a decisive cluster of four runs in the eighth act to overcome the Camagüey Bulls 6×1 at the Coloso del Cerro.

For the felines there were home runs from Alfredo Hechavarría and Yoangel La O, to support the fifth smile without a defeat for Reemberto Barreto, who pitched five solid episodes to the tune of five hits and excellent control of just one walk conceded.

Santiago de Cuba overcame Sancti Spíritus 8×6, but had the victory confiscated for using an improper player. That imprudence cost them a fall to ninth place in the standings table.

In the remaining results Cienfuegos defeated Guantánamo 16×7 and Ciego de Ávila painted Isla de la Juventud white 8×0.

The matches Pinar del Río-Villa Clara and Mayabeque-Granma were suspended.

Following what happened this Sunday, Holguín leads (29-15), followed by Matanzas (28-17), Las Tunas (25-15), Industriales (25-15), Mayabeque (24-18), Sancti Spíritus (25-20), Artemisa (23-19) and Cienfuegos (22-19).
