«Neurótica Anónima», a film directed by Jorge Perugorría and starring Mirtha Ibarra, has been announced in competition as part of the official selection of the Malaga International Film Festival, according to Alexis Triana, President of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC).

«Excellent news for the new wave of Cubacine ICAIC films representing the largest of the Antilles in various cinematic events around the world,» said the executive, whilst also acknowledging the acclaimed actress and the entire production team, and especially producer Santiago García Galván and the director.

For its part, the Havana Film Festival profile highlighted that Malaga is considered one of the most representative festivals of Spanish cinema, and its Official Competition Section includes 12 Spanish films and 10 Latin American films; among which «Neurótica Anónima» and the Bolivian entry «La hija cóndor», by filmmaker Álvaro Olmos, stand out, having already competed in the 46th edition of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema.

Likewise, «Querido trópico», by Panamanian director Ana Endara, a feature film that formed part of the first feature competition at the 45th edition of the Havana cinematic event, will be screened in the context of the Malaga Festival, as Panama is the guest country for this edition.

The 29th edition of the prestigious competition will take place from the 6th to the 15th of March 2026, featuring the screenings of 263 audiovisual works across all its sections and categories; in addition to adding a new non-competitive section, entitled «América, América», dedicated to cinema of the Americas’ identities, and which, in this iteration of the term, encompasses everything from the urban and familiar to the indigenous and rural, showcasing the diversity of cultures and forms of audiovisual creation that the continent offers today.
